Columbia Council of Neighborhoods (CCN)

While Columbia is socially and economically diverse, all 118 established residential neighborhoods experience similar needs.

Launched in 1998 as a 501.c3 non-profit in collaboration with City encouragement, CCN today serves neighborhood leaders as a resource for information, provides a forum for discussion of issues and fosters neighborhood collaboration and development.

CCN agendas address best practice solutions to quality-of-life matters relating to safety, health, equity, and crime prevention.

A key ongoing objective is to effectively communicate community needs to city officials, enhancing the process of identifying problems and setting priorities for solutions.

Members honor each other’s unique characteristics. Thus, fulfilling a genuine sense of ownership and empowerment towards building high quality social, cultural and economic capital for their neighbor residents. This site provides a portal space for you to be inspired and engage with fellow leaders across Columbia.

Our
Story

The Columbia Council of Neighborhoods is a volunteer, community-based umbrella organization which coordinates the activities of 117+ city neighborhood organizations.

Prior to CCN, residents often experienced difficulty in effectively communicating community needs; local officials unilaterally decided spending priorities. Neighborhoods competed unequally for available funds, despite similar needs.

CCN now provides a link between neighborhood groups and city officials, enhancing the process of identifying neighborhood problems and setting priorities for solutions.
